CAPE TOWN: South Africa was being ‘mooted in international sporting circles as a venue for the Olympic Games in either 2000 or 2004, a top South African businessman claimed here yesterday.
Raymond Ackerman, chairman of a South African supermarket giant that it was widely known in Olympic circles that South Africa will host the Games,
“Logically, they realise that Africa must soon be selected as a venue for the Games, and in Africa only South Africa has the infrastructure to cope with this massive international event,” Mr. Ackerman said.
‘According to his source, Mr. Ackerman said South Africa’s only rival was an East European country.
South Africa has been banned from the Games since 1964 due to its apartheid policies.
