NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi entertained the possibility of drafting armed forces in Jammu and Kashmir for what he called “controlling the situation and to prevent armed infiltration from Pakistan.”

Questioned about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, Gandhi said that Home Minister Buta Singh and Defense Minister K.C Patnt had visited the state and had talked with the Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah.

There have been a number of incidents of violence in Kashmir (WSN April 14).

When reporters questioned Rajiv about Farooq Abdual’s statement in which he said he would call the army if necessary, to quell the disturbances, Gandhi said, “after all for what the defense minister has gone there.” Armed incursions will ‘not be tolerated in the state.
