LUDHIANA: The Punjab Sikh Lawyers Council cautioned the freedom fighters in Punjab against government of India’s design to have talks with them without resolving the current issues in Punjab.
The council in a statement said the Operation Blue Star Black Thunder etc. and now framing of Simiranjit Singh Mann and others in the “conspiracy” to assassinate Indira Gandhi are parts of a government plan hatched by ruling party against the Sikhs.
According to the PSLC Centers politically motivated sinister designs are really aimed at putting pressure on him to toe the government line in Punjab.
The council also condemned the attack on opposition Member of Parliament and prominent jurist Ram Jethmalani’s house in Delhi by Congress I hoodlums.
Even Mid-Term Polls Won’t Save Congress I: Opposition
NEW DELHI: Oppositions leaders do not rule out the possibly of Rajiv Gandhi’s Congress I party. holding a snap poll in Juneso as to take advantage of the opposition’s unpreparedness. State Assembly elections are scheduled for June and the Congress I may announce parliamentary elections simultaneously.
Eyen such a hope would not be of much use to the ruling party as the ruling party had lost its mass appeal. It would be defeated and possibility routed in the elections as in 1977, opposition sources asserted.
A highly placed government source said that elections would be held on scheduled in December 1989 on January 1990 as the mood of the electorate is not favorable for Congress I.
Also the budget session of the Parliament will end on May 10 and a 35 day notice is required for holding the elections.
Opposition leader contend that Chief Minister in Congress I states are facing increasing dissidence and the early elections could be a ploy to assert Rajiv Gandhi’s authority.
Congress I leaders said that a June election would take the best advantage of a divided opposition.
