JAMMU: Fifty six militants, a woman and her child and two security men were among 80 people killed in Kashmir valley while militants attacked security personnel in Srinagar city Monday morning.
According to an official spokesman nine militants were shot dead by security personnel in an encounter in Kupwara in north Kashmir early Monday, four others were killed in the five km belt in northwest of the valley.
JAMMU: Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir killed37 militants and arrested 18 while militants attacked security men, blasted bombs and gunned down four persons in different parts of the valley since July 18. Authorities who had initially withdrawn curfew relaxation in only downtown localities of Srinagar extended the restriction to the entire city amid reports of large scale violence being planned by freedom fighters who had called for a two day “civil curfew” beginning Wednesday.
This was to protest against the foreign secretary level talks between India and Pakistan which opened in Pakistan Wednesday.
Army was alerted and security measures were stringently reviewed Tuesday evening at a high level official meeting in the wake of intelligence reports that groups where planning to attack security men and vital installations in the valley from Wednesday till August 17 the day GenZiaulHaq, former president of Pakistan, was killed in an air crash.
