NEW DELHI: Iran strongly denied U.S. Senator Alan Cranston’s charge that Tehran was arming militants in the northern most Indian border state of Kashmir.
In a statement here, the Iranian embassy press attaché, S.H Davisara, said the “mischievous statement of the Senator was made at a time when Indo Iran relations are improving.”
“India and Iran enjoy centuries old friendly and cordial relations and Iran has always maintained that it does not want to interfere in the internal affairs of any country.”
“It is America, and not Iran, who interferes in the internal affairs of other countries. The memories of Vietnam, Grenada, Panama and the shooting down of the Iranian airbus three years ago are only too vivid to be forgotten,” the statement added.
