LUCKNOW: The president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Mahendra Singh Tikait, was among a large number of farmers arrested near Bareilly Sunday while on their way to Lucknow to hold a rally.
Nearly 2,000 farmers were arrested Saturday at several places in the state of Uttar Pradesh as they tried to reach the state capital,
The BKU had planned to hold a tally to press its various demands, including concessional power rates for farmers.
