CERES, C a: Simi Purewal, daughter of Harjeet and Kulwant Purewal, recently won the title of First Runner Up in the 199091 Miss Ceres Pageant. It was judged on talent, poise and appearance, personality, interview, modeling in a fashion show, and an impromptu question. For her talent, Simi recited a poem that she wrote herself; furthermore, that poem was recently published in a book. Her poem was titled “The Day He Left Me.” i the first Sikh to ever compete in the Miss Ceres pageant. If at any time Miss Ceres is unable to perform her duties, Simi will take her place.
Simi is a 4.0 grade point average senior at Ceres High School. She has been a Rotary Speech Contest Winner, a Dance Contest Winner, been featured in who’s among American High School Students, and has been on the Honor Roll for five years. Simi has also been active in her community, volunteering three consecutive years at the Halloween Fun Festival, active in CSF, the International Club, Service Club and Friday Night Live. Various types of dancing, modeling, poetry writing, soccer, swimming and of course shopping, rate among her favorite activities.
