AMRITSAR: About 24 senior leaders of the Akali Dal Mann and. Badal groups and different factions of the All India Sikh Students Federation were rounded up in connection with the strike called on Monday.

Most of the arrests were made in Amritsar and Tam Taran border areas.

Meanwhile several militant outfits Saturday opposed the Bandh call and urged the people not to respond.

The police action came in the wake of the announcement of the Punjab governor, Veranda Verma that firm steps would be taken against any attempt at disrupting Jaw and order. The strike call was given following the arrest of AISSF president, Manjit Singh on Sunday for allegedly harboring militants and extorting money.

Four militant outfits Babbar Khalsa, Khalistan Commando Force, Khalistan Liberation Force and the All India Sikh Students Federation (Daljit Faction) Saturday called upon the Sikhs in Punjab not to respond to the strike call given by the AISSF.

Ina signed statement at Patiala; they accused Manjit Singh, president of the AISSF of letting down Sikh interest and alleged his involvement in extortion activities after his release from the jail.
