PHAGWARA: Leaders of the Congress I, CPI, CPM and Janata Dal held a joint dharna here demanding an enquiry into the killing of three persons in a fake encounter near Cheheru village on June 5. They also demanded compensation of Rs | lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ‘suspension of the cops involved. Joginder Singh Mann of the Congress I Sarwan Singh Cheema of CPM, Nand Kishore Chepra of Janata Dal and Mohan Lal of the CPI led the dharna. Cheem told newsmen that a 10 member committee formed to press their demands and had decided to organise a demonstration and all party meeting on July 10 at Phagwara.
