MADRAS: 18 persons including the secretary general of the EELAM People’s revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF), K. Padmanabha were shot dead by Sri Lankan Tamil militants believed to be members of rival LTTE at Zakaria colony in the busy Kodambakkam locality in the heart of the city.
The director general of police, P Dorai told PTI that 15 others were seriously injured in the incident. It was not immediately known whether there were any local persons other than the EPRLF cadre among the victims.
The gunmen carrying AK 4 7 ‘rifles and armed with grenades raided the flats where the EPRLF leaders were staying and sprayed bullets into them.
Following the incident, Dorai said police have been instructed to round up immediately the Sri Lankan Tamil militants belonging to all groups in the state.
