AMRITSAR: Freedom fighters launched a fierce rocket attack the biggest ever on security forces, to blow up a central reserve police force building in Tarn Taran district in Punjab around Tuesday midnight.
Police said that about 40 freedom fighters cordoned off the 69th battalion headquarters of CRPF and fired 22 rockets. They also used other sophisticated weapons in the attack.
While most of the rockets missed the target, five hit the buildings in the complex, damaging property.
There is no report of any loss of human life.
A CRPF official told that most of the troops were out in countryside on patrol duty when the attack was launched. It was, however repulsed by the guards who were on duty in the building, he added, the attackers fled when rein for cements arrived at the spot, he said.
Police said the attackers raised anti India slogans and shouted that the attack was in retaliation of the killing of Lt Gen of the Bhindranwale Tigers Force of Khalistan, Bakhshish Singh who was killed in an encounter with security forces in Ferozepur area on Sunday.
