NEW DELHI: The railway minister, George Fernandes, was Wednesday formally divested of the additional charge of affairs of Kashmir.
The president on the advice of the prime minister has rescinded the order by which Fernandes was asked to coordinate all actions of the ministries and various departments relating to Jammu and Kashmir.
Fernandes was entrusted with Kashmir affairs on March 12 but he was reported to have differences with the home minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and the former governor Jagmohan.
Fernandes had himself said recently that there was difference in perception between him and Jagmohan. While he wanted to initiate the political process in Kashmir, Jagmohan said it could wait till normalcy is restored.
The all party advisory panel on Kashmir as well as the Kashmir cell set up within the cabinet secretariat has also been dissolved.
