STOCKTON, CA: Last weekend, the Sikh temple hosted a volleyball tournament in the memory of late Gurcharn Singh Sandhu who passed away last month Sandhu was a valued and respected leader of the Sikh community here.
Five teams participated on a league basis. All the teams were very keen and serious in their respective games. In the end Punjab Hawks of Stockton and Punjab Volleyball Club, Sacramento battled each other for the prized trophy. Both played good defense and attack as was evident from the shots, Sacramento sure edge as they overwhelmed Stockton in three straight games. Gurnam Singh of Sacramento was honored for his all-round performance, while Gurban Singh Sidhu of Stockton was the best blocker.
Mrs. Sandhu wife of late Gurcharan Singh Sandhu presented the trophies, which were donated by Iqbal Singh Sandhu the brother of late Mr. Sandhu. On behalf of winners Major Singh the Sacramento captain accepted the prize. Mrs. Sandhu appreciated the work done by Punjab Hawks in honoring her late husband and also wonderful organization of the tourney.
Amarjit Singh one of the organizers said that next year’s plans would also include Kabaddi and field hockey.
