LAHORE: The Pakistan High Court has ordered the release of four Sikh “hijackers” and the plea of two others that they be tried only as Pakistanis has been accepted.
At present 14 Sikh youth are in Pakistani jail on charges of hijacking — Indian Airlines Boeing to Lahore. While it could not be confirmed, the names of those to be freed are believed to be S Malagar Singh, S. Gurvinder Singh, S. Harbhajan Singh, and S. Manjit Singh. The two to be tried as Pakistani nationals on the basis of their being Kashmiris are said to be S. Kiaran Singh and S. Ravinder Singh.
The court said the charges against the four could not be proved. Mr. Ismail Bhatti, lawyer for the Sikh boys, said that there is likelihood that all the Sikhs would be freed.
