MOSCOW: Arun Nehru, Indian commerce minister and special envoy of Prime Minister Singh, called on Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev on Tuesday international issues and other matters of mutual interest.
This is the first meeting between a member of the new government in New Delhi and the Soviet leader.
The meeting was held in an atmosphere of warmth and cordiality that had characterized Indo Soviet relations, an Indian embassy spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said Gorbachey and Nehru discussed international and regional issues and other matters of mutual interests, and further promotion of the already close cooperation between the two countries, including in commercial and economic fields.
Nehru had a meeting with Konstantin Katushev, minister for foreign economic relations, on Monday at which the two decided to give further impetus to setting up of joint ventures by streamline procedures.
