NEW DELHI: The entire Congress (I) opposition and its associates Monday walked out of the Rajya Sabha to protest against what they called extraordinary rise in prices of essential commodities, including common salt and the insensitivity of the government to check these.
The walkout, came after nearly half an hour heated exchanges between the agitated Congress I and ruling party members during which leader of the house; M S Gurupadasswamy, and leader of the opposition P Shiv Shanker, also spoke,
While deputy chairman, Dr. Najma Heptualla and Gurupadaswamy said that the business advisory committee of the house had agreed to hold the discussion on price rise on May 20th, the entire opposition insisted that the government should make a statement Monday itself because of the alarming situation.
