STOCKHOLM: The Swedish government will hand over to India the complete classified report of its national audit bureau on alleged Bofors kickbacks, the Swedish parliament decided today, according to Sweden’s news agency TT.
Following parliament’s 168 to 130 votes on this issue the complete report will now be handed over to New Delhi.
Earlier, classified portions of the report had not been given to India.
The decision came after the Social Democrats in a surprise move voted against referring back to the standing committee on the constitution (KU) the issue whether or not the government was at fault in not delivering the complete report to New Delhi.
The Social Democrats voted against referral apparently hoping to increase the split within the Conservation Party. The Conservation leader, Carlbildt, has all along stated that the part of the report containing confidential information given to national audit board, RR, by the Central Bank of Sweden should remain classified.
This is also the stance taken by the Swedish social democratic government.
