CHANDIGARH: The Union Home Ministry has expressed concern at the increasing trend in Punjabi papers carrying advertisements about the funeral ceremonies of militants killed in alleged encounters with the police.

In a letter to the governor, the home secretary Dinesh Chander drew his attention to these advertisements in Jalandhar and Chandigarh based dailies and asked him to initiate steps to put an end to the practice. It has been suggested that a “persuasive” approach be adopted.

Earlier a case was registered against the daily Ajit but it was later dropped.
