LUDHIANA: Gurcharan Singh Tohra, president of the SGPC management committee of Sikh temples, was seriously injured during an attempt on his life near Sahnewala, 1 6 km from here Sunday night.

Tohra was going to his village after attending a function here when four car borne assailants came from the opposite direction and fired indiscriminately at his car. The driver and accompanying

Akali leaders, Hardyal Singh Rajla, former member of Punjab legislative assembly, were killed on the spot. The bodyguard of the SGPC chief was also injured in the incident.

Tohra received injuries in the chest, arms and knees, and had to be operated upon. He was stated to be out of danger.
