NEW DELHI: A top ranking militant of the JKLF Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front JKLF who was wanted in several cases of killings and kidnappings in the Kashmir Valley, was arrested here.

Delhi police crime branch Chief Amod Kanth identified Shafaq Ahmed, and said he financed the activities of the JKLF. He was arrested from a posh hotel in Sardar Patel marg here.

Police conducted a series of raids on a number of places before they arrested the militant, who was hiding in the capital for the past 10 days, Kanth said.

According to a dossier maintained by the Jammu and Kashmir police, Shafaq runs a footwear and carpet business in Srinagar.

Kashmir militants operating in the valley were in constant touch with him on the phone, Kanth said. He was reported to be directing their operations from Delhi.

Shafaq’s father, Safruddin Sangloo, a superintendent engineer in the works department in Jammu and Kashmir, has already been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Dr. Rubaiya, federal home minister Mufti Mobammad Sayeed’s daughter.
