CHANDIGARH: Well-known freedom fighters Bhagwant Singh and Dilbagh Singh, were among four people killed in Punjab Thursday.

The two extremists, belonging to the outlawed “Babbar Khalsa” outfit, were allegedly killed in an encounter with a CRPF patrol Party near Bhawarka village in Tarn Taran district Police said here.

Bhagwant Singh was wanted in connection with over SO operations,

Police recovered a general purpose machine gun, 100 rounds of ammunition, three rockets, two powerful grenades and one pistol from the spot.

Elsewhere in the state, two gunmen shot dead, a government clerk in Ropar outside the local civil hospital Thursday morning. The assailants escaped after the incident.

In another incident, unidentified gunmen shot dead head constable Atma Singh in Sakhri village in Tarn Taran district.

Seven people including two women and two militants were killed while an attempt was made on a station house officer’s life in Punjab on May 1,

Gunmen fired at a special police officers picket in village Amarkot in Amritsar district. Policemen returned the fire forcing them to flee.

Militants ambushed the vehicle of Valotha police station in Amritsar district Monday night, the SHO however, escaped unhurt.

Two militants Sewa Singh and Harjinder Singh were killed in inter group warfare according to the police. Their bullet ridden bodies were found near a canal in Kapurthala district.

Gunmen broke into a house in village Chak in Batala district and shot dead Nirmal Singh and his mother, Beero. Nirmal Singh’s brother was injured.

In the same district, gunmen shot dead a woman, Harjit Kaur, in village Kot Todarmal. The victim’s husband was shot dead by militants last week.

Meanwhile, the death toll in Monday’s bomb blast in Amritsar rose to two Tuesday with one more person succumbing to his injuries in a hospital.
