NEW DELHI: The alleged kickbacks in the Swedish Bofors gun deal with India may have been deposited in banks in some countries other than in Switzerland official sources Friday said.
This had been apparently done after April 1987 when the Swedish radio made allegations of payoff in the Rs 14.5 billion howitzer gun contract and various newspapers started writing about the deal, the sources said.
They said that till April 1987, the alleged kickbacks were sent to unnamed accounts in Swiss banks in Geneva and Zurich and in the wake of the recent investigations some of these accounts had been frozen by a Geneva court.
They said they had information to suggest that payments were due even after April 1987 and had been made by Bofors but possibly not through Swiss banks,
Meanwhile, CBI was working on a letter rotatory likely to be sent to Britain for cooperation in probing the gun deal. Another letter rotatory to Panama might also be sent, the sources said,
