CHANDIGARH: Simranjit Singh Mann feels bitter that the Govt has failed to understand his limitations. In an interview he said, “Is it not a victory that I continue to demand the Anandpur Sahib Resolution and swear by the constitution. And no militant group opposes me. I stand for democratization, demilitarization and decolonization of the state and in this battle I seek the help of every fellow Indian as otherwise their liberties will definitely be finished.”
“My stand on the kirpan has Proved that the Govt is not prepared to grant even our minimum constitutional rights and I have managed to bring the Sikh community on a common platform over this issue,” he said.
It seems Mann still has faith in the Prime Minister VP Singh as he refused to remark on him. He said if Singh continues to saddle himself with the advice of the communists and BJP, which talks of Hindu fundamentalism, how will we solve the Sikh problem?
On the alleged role of Pakistan of supplying arms to the Sikh militants, he said “if it is true, that Pakistan is providing succor then it is a great shame that Sikhs who had shifted to India at the time of independence in 1947 should be going to Pakistan now. The Govt should set its own house in order first. Yet, I think it is strange that Sikhs in Punjab had not migrated to Pakistan en mass in the face of the repression and terror let loose by the govt. International conventions made provision of shelter for refugees who were victims of repression in their own country.
Mann justified the demand for a referendum that this is permissible under resolutions 637 of the UN charter to which India was a signatory.
