CHICAGO: In a tragic accident S. Makhtool Singh and his wife Sardarni Surjeet Kaur died when a front wheel of their van came off. The van fell into a 40 foot ditch, they were the parents of S. Lakh want Singh Komal, the president of the Chicago Gurdwara.
The accident took place when the Chicago delegation was traveling to New York as every year to take part in the parade,
Several other persons traveling in the van were previously injured and are in United Community Hospital in Grove City Pennsylvania.
Among the injured were several relatives of S. Lakhwant Singh. A brother S. Satwant Singh, his wife, brother in law S. Gulzar Singh, his wife and a niece were injured. S. Karupa Singh and his wife were also in hospital.
This tragedy cast a gloomy shadow on the otherwise grand parade where an Ardas was said for the departed and speedy recovery of the injured. A special prayer service was held at the Gurdwara.
The WSN joins the community in condoling the family on this tragedy and prays for strength for them to bear this great loss.
