JALANDHAR: The Akali Dal (Longowal) has filed seven cases seeking compensation and damages for “unlawful confinement, illegal detention, malicious prosecution and intentional torture” of Jodhpur detneus.
The cases, demanding compensation of Rs one million each, were filed in the court of a senior sub judge at Amritsar on March 31.
The detainees imprisoned on sedition charges in the wake of the operation blue star of June 1984 and were release in October 1989.
The Akali Dal in its petition named the union government, Punjab government, director of CBI, directors general of elite paramilitary forces, the central reserve police force (CRPF) border security force (BSF) and jail authorities of Amritsar Nabha and Jodhpurs defendants in the case.
Sood said cases of all the 365 people detained in Amritsar during “operation blue star” would be filed in due course.
The petitioners also demanded an interest of 18 percent per annum on the compensation amount claimed from the date of his release up to the date of actual payment.
