NEW DELHI: An all-party committee on Kashmir was constituted by the government on Monday. As indicated earlier George Fernandes is to be minister in charge of Kashmir. There is no move to set up a separate ministry for Kashmir affairs.

All this was revealed by VP Singh in his address to the National Front parliamentary party. He said the committee would have representation of the Janata Dal, Congress National Confederation BJP, CPI and CPM.

Talking to newsmen Fernandes said he will be assisted by the panel. He said the panel would have no constitutional standing to avoid any legal problems. Its role would only be advisory, Fernandes brushed aside a suggestion that he would come into conflict with the Union home ministry.
