NEW DELHI: The four member ruling Janata Dal party, which visited Meham in Haryana has decided to submit its report on alleged poll malpractices and violence during assembly last month’s bye-election there, to prime minister VP Singh.
The high powered team, led by party secretary general and federal industry minister Ajit Singh, visited several villages in the constituency and expressed sympathy with families of the dead.
Large scale violence had erupted during a repoll in some booths in the constituency on February 28, leaving many dead and several others injured. Official sources have put the toll at eight.
Haryana Chief Minister Om Parkash Chautala was locked in a 16 cornered battle with the powerful Chaubisi Panchayat supporting independent candidate Anand Singh Dangi.
