HYDERABAD: Federal minister for external affairs Inder Kumar Gujral Wednesday said there was no way the United Nations could “come into the picture” in the present situation in Kashmir as it was India’s internal affair and not a problem between India and Pakistan.
Replying to questions at an informal press conference here, the minister said any agitation in Kashmir had to be tackled within the democratic framework of the country. However, he saw no scope for any United Nations official or observer visiting the state. #FL Reiterating the government’s stand on the Dashmir issue, Gujral said India had produced evidence of Pakistani Intervention in Jammu and Kashmir, and Punjab.
He said there had been a “qualitative change” in India’s relations with all its neighbors like Nepal, Maldives and other countries. He expressed hope that Pakistan also would soon see reason in the Indian stand.
In reply to a question, he said that the country had no designs of becoming a regional superpower, as speculated in a section of the international media. There could be no such design when the two superpower themselves were dismantling their superpower image.
