NEW DELHI: Campaign for Feb 27 Assembly elections attained a feverish intensity on Friday with just three days left for it to end as the Janata Dal and its allies were making last ditch efforts to avoid triangular and mult cornered contests, PTI reports.
While top party leaders like Prime Minister VP Singh and leader of the opposition Rajiv were trying to cover as much territory as possible with their hurricane campaign tours, the stress of the campaign was mainly on personal contact with the voters. Party volunteers were trying to get in touch with as much of the electorate as possible through door to door canvassing.
While Singh has so far covered Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Bihar, Gandhi who has had a much earlier start, has had a round of campaigning in six states and has covered some of them even for second time.
The main stress in the campaign has been on national issues. Singh, Gandhi and a host of other leaders have been speaking mainly on subjects like Kashmir, Punjab, electoral reforms and militancy.
