CHANDIGARH: An assistant superintendent of jail, Piara Lal Virdi, and two other persons were killed in different incidents in Amritsar district in North Indian state of Punjab Thursday, police said.

Within two days of the attack on the high security central jail at Amritsar, Virdi was shot dead by militants in the posh Rani Ka Bagh colony of Amritsar Thursday.

He tried to escape into a room of the district food and supplies office after the militants fired at him when he came to leave his wife, but the assailants chased him and pumped bullets into him right inside the room and escaped.

In other incidents one Kewal Singh was shot dead in village Vishowa under Ramdas police. Station and Balkar Singh was gunned down in village Ratoke.
