BATHINDA: S. Simranjit Singh Mann hit by police rifle butts has been rushed to the General Hospital in Chandigarh with internal bleeding. His condition is said to be serious.
- Mann and 50 Akali Dal-M workers were injured in a police “baton charge” to disperse a peaceful demonstration outside the police station here demanding the release of S. Lakha Singh a local party leader.
Also among the injured is S. Sucha Singh, another newly elected MP.
The senior superintendent of police, Sumer Singh Saini known for high handedness ordered the baton charge without provocation or warning. Many of the policemen used the butts of their rifles freely.
