NEW DELHI: Atinder Pal Singh, a member of parliament elect and under detention in the East Delhi bomb blast case, has urged the Supreme Court to allow him to take oath as Member of Parliament (MP).

In an affidavit filed in the Supreme Court on Friday, he has also prayed the court to issue necessary directions to the Union of India to allow him to perform his duties as a MP.

“It is an insult to our democracy that a member of parliament has to make plea to the highest court to direct the government to let him be sworn in as MP in the usual manner,”” Singh said in the affidavit.

He further submitted “this was a first case where a duly elected MP was not being allowed to be sworn in. This was clear discrimination.”

The affidavit was filed in connection with a writ petition by the Sikh Forum seeking quashing of proceedings of the bomb blast case.
