NEW DELHI: Counting of votes for the February 27 Assembly elections to eight states and the union territory of Pondicherry will begin at 0800 hours (GMT 0230 hrs.) on February 28, the Election Commission announced here.
Commission secretary K.P.G Kutty told newsmen that exceptions would be made only in cases where polling parties are not able to reach the counting centers on time.
In such cases the returning officers had been authorized to fix the date, and time of counting according to his discretion.
Kutty said returning officers have been asked to evolve special strategies in consultation with law and order authorities for securing orderly and peaceful counting after a careful assessment of situations likely to arise at the stage of counting.
