NEW DELHI: President Venkataraman appointed 13 Governors and one lieutenant-governor to different states and centrally administered territories.

The President also accepted resignations of 12 governors who had earlier been asked to quit.

The governors appointed were: Krishan Kant (Andhra Pradesh), Yunus Salim (Bihar), Dhanik Lal Mandal (Haryana), B Rachaiah (Himachal Pradesh), Sarup Singh (Kerala), Mahmood Ali (Madhya Pradesh), C Subramanium (Maharashtra), Saraj Kaushal (Mizoram), D P Chattopadhyay (Rajasthan), Admiral (Retd) R H Tahiliani (Sikkim), Raghunath Reddy (Tripura), B Satyanarayana Reddy (Uttar Pradesh), Yagyadutt Sharma (Orissa) and Chandrawati (Lt-Governor, Pondicherry).

  1. Nurul Hassan, at present Governor of Orissa, has been transferred to West Bengal for the remainder of his term, a communique from the presidential palace here said.

Lt-General (Retd) R S Dayal, Lt-Governor of Pondicherry, has been shifted to Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Earlier, the president accepted the resignations of the following, governors:-Kumudben Joshi, Jagannath Pahadia, H E Barari, RK S Ghandhi, R D Sharma, Sarla Grewal, W A Sangma, Sukhdev Prasad, S K Bhatnagar, Sultan Singh, Mohammad Usman Arif and T V Rajeshwar.

The announcement said that appointments of the new governors would take effect from the date they assumed their respective offices.
