NEW DELHI: Indian troops opened fire on Feb 5 on a group of civilian demonstrators who crossed from Pakistan into Indian occupied territory in Kashmir, Government controlled television said tonight.
India said about 10 protesters was wounded. Pakistani officials said four protesters was killed and 13 were wounded in the legs, The AP reported.
The Indian news report said that about 4,000 people shouting anti-India slogans gathered at the frontier in the southern part of Jammu and Kashmir State near the city of Jammu about 2:30 this afternoon. The protest apparently ‘was associated with a strike in major Pakistani cities in support of Kashmiris waging a guerrilla war against India.
Pakistani forces tried to contain the demonstration but an unspecified number of demonstrators crossed the disputed border and were fired on by Indian troops, Indian television said.
