WASHINGTON: A new embassy publication, the “India” monthly was released by Indian ambassador to U.S. Karan Singh at a reception here on Thursday, PTI reports

Singh said the idea behind the magazine was that instead of having a number of undistinguished publications, “we should have one outstanding publication of quality”.

“We have got to get across (to the United States) our views, the multifaceted splendor of India, its cultural heritage, its democracy. ‘We wanted a magazine that will really be cherished and not something that is thrown away”, the ambassador said.

On the cover page is a picture of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi shaking hands with new Prime Minister V.P. Singh with President Venkataraman looking on. Dr Karan Singh said he chose the picture to bring out the fact that in-spite of a bitter election battle the transition in India is smooth and civilized.

When queried as to what he would do after quitting his job as ambassador here following the change of government in India, Dr Singh said “I will revert to my profession as a writer”.
