SYDNEY: Urgent action was needed to prevent Asia from becoming as devastated by AIDS as Africa, an Australian expert warned on Tuesday. Professor John Dwyer, speaking on his return from Bangkok, where he attended the second international conference on AIDS. In Asia said cultural and political difficulties hampered efforts to minimize the virus spread in the region. Professor Dwyer, director of A AIDS treatment and research at Sydney’s Prince Henry Hospital, is to head a new association formed during the Bangkok conference, aimed at controlling the epidemic in Asia.
