NEW DELHI: A writ petition challenging the selection of the official Test cricket team for New Zealand was filed in the Supreme Court on Jan 15th.
‘The petitioner Mr. N.N Saigal, President Human Rights Foundation, submitted that the selected cricket team was the “weakest” in the past 50 years and that three top batsman Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohinder Amarnath and Srikkanth had been deliberately excluded.
The petition, which has made the Board of Control for Cricket in India respondent, is yet to be heard by the apex court.
The petition alleged that the appointment of Mohammad Azharuddin as captain and BS, Bedi as team manager was for considerations other than cricket and not in the interest of them,
‘Submitting that majority of the members of the new team had not been exposed to Test cricket; it said the action of the board was vindictive and arbitrary.
