AMRITSAR: Canadian High Commission -officials were refused permission to meet two of their nationals lodged in the Central Jail here. The district magistrate Sarabjit Singh informed them that he was not empowered to grant them permission which only the Union Home Ministry could do so.

The two Canadians Bhinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh are in jail under the Terrorist Act (TADA). Four Canadians have been held in recent years for militant activities. The other two Balkar Singh and Daljit Singh were deported to Canada following intervention of the Canadian authorities.

The Canadian High Commissioner James Herish was also in town on a private visit.
