FREMONT: A prominent Sikh of the Bay area was denied a visa to go and visit his ailing mother in law in India by the Indian Consulate in San Francisco.

Gurpratap Singh Basrai (Gerry) who resides in Fremont was denied a visa when he and his family, who are American citizens, applied in the Indian Consulate inSan Francisco. Officials refused to give any reason for the denial of visa to Mr. Basrai but one consul implied that his being the Treasurer of Fremont Gurdwara had a bearing on the issue. In the meanwhile Mrs. Swaran Kaur Olak, 57 passed away on February 7 at village Daugram in Jallandhar district of Punjab. She was 59.

Mrs. Swaran Kaur was suffering from Tuberculosis. She leaves behind her husband S. Darshan Singh, five daughters Gurbax Kaur, Joginder, Charni, Amarjean and Rani, and a son Manmohan Singh.
