NEW DELHI: Federal Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Nathu Ram Mirdha told the Rajya Sabha that the overall price situation has been showing a declining trend since the new government took ‘over.
The image of the new government was responsible for this trend in prices, he said, adding that the prices had gone down as the traders realized that the new government was determined to control the price line.
Earlier intervening during the same question, the Prime Minister said that he wanted to share with the house the situation at the macroeconomic level.
In recent times the money supply position had increased tremendously by 18-19 percent. The government was thus confronted with the challenge created by the huge dose of money supply which ‘was putting pressures on all fronts, he explained.
Mirdha cited figures to show the downward trend in prices and said that he had met the needs of the state governments for essential commodities and in future too he would ensure that their needs were fulfilled.
Replying to a question put by V ‘Narayansamy (Cong-I), the minister said the government was aware of the problem of high prices.
