NEW DELHI: A bills to ensure that reports of the commissions of inquiry are not withheld from legislatures and the public was Friday introduced in the Lok Sabha.
In the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, Sayeed said a commission of inquiry was always set up for the purpose of making an inquiry into any definite matter of public importance. Hence the report submitted by such a commission should not be withheld from the concerned legislature under any circumstances.
This was also necessary to ensure that the public should have: access to information which is of vital importance and interest to them, the minister said. The bill seeks to do away with amendments made to the act in 1986 in this regard.
