KARACHI, Pakistan, Jan 29, Reuter: Four Hindus were killed near a temple in the southern Pakistani town of Umerkot. Close to the Indian border, government officials said on Sunday.
Police said a motive for the killings, which occurred on Friday, was not yet known and they were still investigating.
Hindus are a small minority in Pakistan, but form a majority in India.
A Hindu leader in the Sind province capital of Karachi said “miscreants” kidnapped and killed the four.
Sind Province Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah said: “Such diabolic acts are engineered by the antisocial elements that are bent upon creating confusion in the society.”
The umerkot incident was the first of its kind since Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto took office last month. Most Hindus supported Bhutto’s Pakistan People’s Party in the elections.
