CHANDIGARH: An AllIndia Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) leader and a sarpanch were among eight people killed in Punjab during the past 24 hours, Security forces nabbed eight freedom fighters and their harbourers.

Gunmen shot down a farmer, identified as Gurdial Singh, at Cheema Bath village in Majitha police district on Tuesday night.

Gunmen shot dead one Tejinder Singh in Manda village under the Patti police station in Tarn Taran police district (Amritsar) on Tuesday night.

A sarpanch was shot dead by the security forces at Dhardhia village in Majitha police district on Monday night.

He was identified as Arjun Singh, Cycle borne government “Red Guards” shot dead Gurnam Singh, Ludhiana district General Secretary of the AISSP at Dhadran bus stand in the district on Tuesday morning.

Gunmen forced entry into the house of one Gian Chand at CHit village in Vatala police district (Gurdaspur) on Monday night and opened fired killing his two daughters. His wife was injured.

In another incident, gunmen shot dead a Public Works Department employee, Amar Singh, at Verka in Amritsar district on Monday night.

A bomb was detected near a railway track near Sarabha Nagar in Ludhiana city on Tuesday afternoon. Army experts were called to defuse the bomb.
