CHANDIGARH, India: The Governor, S:S. Ray, who is administering the State as a representative of the Central government, is facing a crusade against him launched by the Punjab leaders of Rajiv’s party i.e. Punjab Pradesh Congress (1). This campaign has been ‘spearheaded by Mr. Gurbir Singh, General Secretary of the PPCE (1) who is a son of former C.M. Punjab, Justice Gurnam.psingh.. Mr, Singh, described it he present rule of Mr. Ray as a “Police Raj!” and’ a total repression. Another Congress (1) leader, Mrs. Pushpinder Kaur the head of women’s section of Pradesh Congress vehemently supported Mr. Singh’s charges. She also condemned and denounced “fake encounters” in which large number of Sikh youths are being killed.
Interestingly, no Congress (1) leader of the PPCC has tried to stop this campaign against the Governor. The political circles of the State are openly commenting that this campaign has been launched with the tacit support of a central powerful minister who is close to Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
