NEW DELHI, Nov 8, Reuter: India’s Supreme Court on Tuesday further stayed the execution of Satwant Singh and Kehar Singh convicted of the 1984 assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
It extended a previous stay to November 16 so that a lower court could hear a counterclaim by one of the accused.
Execution warrants on Satwant Singh, one of the two bodyguards who shot Gandhi in revenge for an army attack on the Golden Temple in Amritsar, and Kehar Singh, convicted of conspiracy, were signed on September 12.
The second assassin, Beant Singh, was killed by other body-guards moments after the killing on October 31, 1984.
