LAHORE, Pakistan, July 5, Reuter: Seven people were killed and at least 50 injured today when three bombs exploded within 10 minutes of each other in the Pakistani city of Lahore, police said.
One device killed at least two people on a platform at the Lahore railway station and another at a taxi stand outside killed at least three. The third blast, at the Badami Bagh Bus station in another part of the city injured half a dozen people.
The injured from all three blasts were taken to the city’s Mayo Hospital, where two of them died, police said.
The bombing came on the 10th anniversary of the military coup that brought President Mohammad Zia-ul-Haq to power. Opposition parties were due to hold protest rallies in different parts of Lahore later today but a big turnout was not expected because of the intense midsummer heat. Bombing takes place regularly in Pakistan’s North West frontier province, which is temporary home to more than two million refugees and to the main anticommunist party Afghan rebel headquarters.
