OTTAWA: S. Gian Singh Sandhu, President WSO (International) in a letter thanked Hon. Bob Pennock M.P. for raising Balkar Singh’s case in the house. The text of the letter is produced below:
On behalf of the World Sikh Organization and the Canadian Sikh Community, I take this opportunity to thank you for raising Mr. Balkar Singh’s case in the House of Commons today.
The ‘Medical Concern’ report on Balkar Singh by the Amnesty International has raised many important questions and we would appreciate if you could get answers to the following:
- Was Balkar Singh in fact, examined by a Canadian physician at any time, or was this request consistently refused?
- If Balkar Singh was examined, what was the date or dates of those examinations?
- What was the name of the physician and what are his credentials, training and affiliations? 4. How long did the examination last?
- What specifically were the findings of the physician’s report or reports?
- Why has there not been an investigation conducted into the allegations of torture, especially when the Supreme Court of India ordered the Government of India to investigate? .
- What steps will you take to get this investigation carried out fairly and fully?
The Sikh community is vitally interested in obtaining these reports, and we would like to know if you would assist us?
Any other assistance you can give to the Sikh community and to the constituents of your riding on this matter would be highly appreciated.
I look forward to hearing from you, as to what course of action you plan to take.
