OTTAWA: In a letter to WSO, International President, S. Gian Singh Sandhu, the Canadian Member of Parliament, Mr. Jim Fulton lamented that “the Government of India refused to allow our travel and allow Canadian MPs to see firsthand and hear firsthand what is going on in Punjab.” Mr. Fulton and Mr. Lorne Greenaway had sought visas to visit Punjab and the Golden Temple but their requests were turned down by the Indian government,
In his letter, Mr. Fulton also wrote, “sadly, the remarks of the Rt. Hon, Joe Clark and other Conservatives harmed the perception of Sikhs in Canada for many Canadians.
“Visible minorities in Canada (just as the Sikh minority in India) have great mountains of justice to climb; it is a climb I join in.”
“I know that my Sikh constituents are aware of my concerns and determination for justice and respect for human nights in Canada and in India.”
It may be recalled that the Indian government has consistently denied permission to U.S., U.K,, and Canadian political leaders to visit Punjab for an on the spot study of the situation. No Human Rights Group has also been allowed! To go there Journalists are not allowed to independtly cover the events. Only selected journalists are taken on a guided tour of selected places to meet the selected people who are fully prepared to speak the language of the government,
Sikhs in India are facing a systematic and State aided Persecution, yet the world is largely unaware of their sufferings.
