EAST LANSING, ML: Jasvinder Singh Sidhu, 17, son of Dr. Kirpal Singh Sidhu and Mrs. Narvinder Kaur Sidhu, and an East Lansing High School senior has been selected in a nationwide competition and awarded a full scholarship by American Intercultural Student Exchange Program to study for one year (198788) in Denmark. This announcement was made by Polly Scouters, Director, American Student Division of American Intercultural Student Exchange Program. The scholarship funded by Cable News Network, Vice-president Public Affairs, WTBS Atlanta, Georgia. Sidhu leaves for Denmark in Fall, 1987. “I just want to go for cultural experience”, said Sidhu who plans to attend either Michigan State University or the University of Michigan after completing the program. He will stay with a host family and attend school until June 1988.
Sidhu’s selection for the scholarship was based on his academic achievement, personal essay, and extracurricular activities.
He has made the High School honor roll for the past four years. Sidhu belonged to Computer Club, Science Fiction Club, Asian Pacific American Club, and High School Soccer Team.
Sidhu served as a Youth Referee for various Soccer organizations, including the American Youth Soccer Organization, and the United States Soccer Federation.
Jas also received recognition from East Lansing High School for high achievement in Spanish, State of Michigan Scholarship, Michigan Academic Award, and Michigan State University Scholarship. He was a 1986 participant in Michigan State University College of Agricultural and Natural Resources Summer Research Apprenticeship Program.
Jasvinder, his brother, Sarbjit and his parents are members of the Sikh Gurdwara of Michigan, Inc., Williamston, and the Sikh Society of Michigan Inc. Detroit.
